Welcome to the start of your safari and welcome to
Tanzania! You’ve chosen a fantastic place for your safari
journey and we’ll get you started with an introductory
briefing before we head out to begin the trip you’ve
been dreaming of.

Itinerary

Arusha is a fun city to explore, a fascinating urban
complement to the thrills on offer elsewhere in northern
Tanzania’s safari parks. Here you’ll get to experience
lively streets, tasty local food, and busy markets and
museums. More than anything else, it’s a window into life
in a provincial Tanzanian city.

This morning we’ll take you to your hotel in Arusha.

You shouldn’t need earplugs at Arusha Planet Lodge
even though you’re in the busy city of Arusha, the
location in the quieter streets east of the center
means noise is rarely an issue. The rooms have plenty
of space and color, and most balconies look out over
the leafy grounds. Enjoy a local meal in the restaurant
and a cocktail in the bar.

You won’t find any more beautiful corner of the Rift
Valley than Arusha National Park. Yes, you’ll see wildlife
– giraffe, zebra and buffalo are present and the birdlife is
wonderfully varied. But it’s the scenery here that most
travelers remember, from the near-perfect volcanic
cone that crowns the summit of Mt Meru to the
Ngurdoto Crater, which often goes by the name of ‘Little
Ngorongoro’. And by focusing on the scenery rather than
the animals, your visit to Arusha National Park nicely
complements the other parks of Tanzania’s northern
safari circuit

You’re going to love Lake Manyara National Park
because it promises experiences you just can’t get
elsewhere. For example, this is one of the most compact
parks in Tanzania’s north: the park consists of a narrow
strip of forest shadowed by vast Lake Manyara on one
side and the cliffs of the Rift Valley escarpment on the
other. The park is known for its large elephant and
baboon populations, and part of the excitement of
visiting here is never quite knowing when you’re going to
come face-to-face with an elephant. And then there are
the tree-climbing lions for which the park is famous: this
is one of very few places in Africa where lions routinely
climb (and spend much of their time up in) trees.

Vast Lake Natron, in Tanzania’s far north and next to the
Kenya–Tanzania border, is an incredible destination. It’s
home to flocks of pink flamingos, and the views here can
be incredible, especially near the lake’s southern end
from where you’ll see the stunning, perfectly formed
volcanic peak of Ol Doinyo Lengai.
Come with us on a walking safari, where you’ll enjoy the
thrill of stepping out into the African wild with an
experienced guide. Although you won’t be watching the
animals from a vehicle, it’s still very safe, and it’s a
priceless opportunity to feel really connected to the
animals you’ll see and the landscapes you’ll explore in a
whole new way.

Visiting the Unesco World Heritage–listed Serengeti is
one of the best things you can do on safari. This is a park
filled with some of the biggest populations of wildlife in
Africa. Here in the Serengeti, there is a very good chance
that you will see lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants,
spotted hyenas, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest
and so many other species. The endless horizons of the
savannah grasslands are the perfect backdrop for seeing
so many animals. And there’s no better safari image than
the sun setting deep red behind a silhouetted acacia
tree deep in the Serengeti.
You’ll love the warm light and cooler temperatures as
we take you out to explore on your evening game drive.
This time of day is when both predators and prey are
most active and it can feel as though anything could
happen at any moment. This is when you’ll most enjoy
being on safari.

You’ll get to know the Serengeti and its colorful cast of
characters even better with another day immersed in its
wild beauty.

Staying at Osupuko Serengeti Camp means feeling a
part of the wild Serengeti. This is a wonderful area of
the park, and the safari tents are safe and secure even
as they allow in the sights and sounds of passing
wildlife. Meals take place in the dining tent and you
can meet other travelers around the nightly campfire.

There’s always more to discover in the Serengeti, and
you’ll get more chances to do so on your return to the
park.
Ngorongoro Crater has everything you could wish for in
a safari – plentiful wildlife, rare natural beauty, and the
chance to enjoy it all in just one day.

Spend another day exploring Ngorongoro Crater with
more wildlife and spectacular views to enjoy.

Enjoy views of Lake Burunge from the deck of your
safari tent here at Sangaiwe Tented Lodge. The tents
themselves have plenty of space, as well as private
bathrooms. You’re close to the border with Tarangire
National Park whose wildlife is never far away. Relax
in the swimming pool or open-sided restaurant, and
explore nearly 40 acres of grounds

Many travelers rate Tarangire among their favorite
national parks anywhere in Tanzania. Here in Tarangire,
you can look for lions, leopards, and cheetahs. But you
won’t have to look hard to see baboons, vervet
monkeys, wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes and
zebras. And you’ll come across elephants and baobabs
everywhere, two giants of the African bush. Also an
enjoyable part of your Tarangire experience will be the
rolling savannah scenery, which includes rivers and low
hills. And while it can get busy, crowds of cars will not be
a problem here.

All good things must come to an end, and your time with
us on safari in Tanzania will now draw to a close. We’re
sure that you’ve had a wonderful time.
